Network Management Means Managing Priorities

Some of the promises organizations might hear about using the cloud for network management include reduced operating costs and increased efficiency that promotes growth and revenue. But since technology changes so fast, many enterprises lack the resources needed to turn these promises into reality.

Each enterprise must know what its true business is and what its priorities are when conducting that business. Only by understanding the priorities from all stakeholder viewpoints can the best decision be made on how to manage the network and meet goals in the process.

What Does Your Business Do?

What is your industry and your size in that industry? Different sectors have different requirements when it comes to what they need from the cloud. Fast-paced, customer-facing industries need information at a faster speed and deeper level than one that uses information largely for archival purposes. What your business does with information affects how it should be stored for later use.

Secondly, who are your customers? Many companies will pursue customer-facing improvement strategies since influencing increasingly selective customers can be the best way to grow a business. But don’t forget that employees are customers, too: Keeping a top-notch internal team may mean fulfilling their desires for electronic mobility and allowing them to use the device of their choice for work.

Agility Implies Continuous Revising

Agility is the cornerstone of modern digital projects. This means the larger, multiyear projects must be prioritized in pieces as well as in conjunction with companion ventures.

Dividing a project into pieces may well mean a business must use outside consultants to advise on specific areas that are outside a company’s core expertise. Otherwise alternatives that can positively impact the overall project may be lost. Being able to continually revise a project (as agile development demands) means all the possible choices for those revisions must be known, and having outside consultants involved can broaden the stakeholders’ horizons.

Network Management for Mobility

Information can’t just stay in the cloud; it needs to be used. Increasingly, it’s used on mobile devices by your customers. Being able to deliver information stored in the cloud to consumers’ mobile devices as well as their desktop installations calls for a sophisticated network.

You may need to gain information about your customers’ likes and dislikes from what they post on social networks, too. Making sure that your network can easily access and reply to customer concerns on social channels is a business priority these days, and it’s one that must be considered in a network’s design.

Considering all the priorities that are important for your specific business can only lead to a clear path for the network management that enables it.
